This little painting started out as just a brushwork exercise of a girl in a kimono. But with all the exciting news I’ve been hearing about the new Rurouni Kenshin live action films (Rurouni Kenshin: Kyōto Taika-hen and Rurouni Kenshin: Densetsu no Saigo-hen), she turned into a stylized version of Kamiya Kaoru! ♥
My version of Kaoru here is mainly based off the original manga character, but I think a little bit of Takei Emi’s wonderful portrayal of Kaoru also became a part of this picture (I loved her performance in the movie so much!).
Rurouni Kenshin was the manga that completely inspired me to start drawing in a manga/anime style, and so it has a very special place in my heart. So the fact that this drawing transformed itself into the lovely Kamiya Kaoru, the character at the very heart of the Rurouni Kenshin story, makes me very, very happy! ♥
